Deana Skimel
Upon completing her Bachelors of Science degree in Education at Illinois State University, Ms. Skimel began her teaching career at the middle school level. Finding her passion for reaching and teaching students of this unique age group, all her teaching experience has been at the middle school level, spanning four different schools; two in Illinois and two in Georgia. After moving to Georgia Ms. Skimel continued to further her education by first receiving a Master’s degree in Education from Georgia State University and then a Specialist degree in Teacher Leadership from University of North Georgia.
Ms. Skimel has taught science, social studies, health education, math, reading, and study skills to students in 5th through 8th grade. In addition, she has taken on numerous teacher leadership roles including grade level chair, science department chair, social studies department chair, talented and gifted chair, and, most recently, served three years as Northwestern Middle Schools administrative assistant prior to becoming an assistant principal for the 2018-2019 school year.
Ms. Skimel is passionate about meeting the educational, social, and emotional needs of all children. It is with this passion and this focus that she strives every day to have a positive impact with the students. Becoming an Assistant Principal at Northwestern Middle School has been, and continues to be, an exciting opportunity for Ms. Skimel as she continues to inspire and lead teachers as they impact the students that enter the building.
