Deana Skimel

Mrs. Skimel began her career in education after earning a Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State University. From the start, she discovered a deep passion for working with middle school students—a unique and transformative age group. Her teaching journey has spanned multiple subjects and four schools, including two in Illinois and two in Georgia, all at the middle school level.

After relocating to Georgia, Mrs. Skimel continued to grow professionally, earning a Master of Education from Georgia State University and an Education Specialist degree from the University of North Georgia.

Throughout her career, Mrs. Skimel has taught a wide range of subjects including science, social studies, health education, math, reading, and study skills to students in grades 5 through 8. Beyond the classroom, she has embraced numerous leadership roles such as grade level chair, department chair for both science and social studies, talented and gifted (TAG) chair, and served as Northwestern Middle School’s administrative assistant for three years.

In 2018, Mrs. Skimel stepped into the role of Assistant Principal at Northwestern Middle School—a position that continues to inspire her. She is deeply committed to supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of every student. Her leadership is driven by a passion for creating a positive, inclusive, and impactful learning environment for both students and staff.
